Found myself in this scene! (And a few others that I didn’t catch before, but it’s mostly the back of my head or the camera’s really far away)

Sorry if this is an awkward question, but how exactly does one become an extra? I'd love to go into it but all the information I can find on Google seems rather outdated.

Not awkward at all! :D I actually became an extra because I just happened to hear about the open casting call from a post on tumblr, and be free the weekend it was being held. You can pay to join an agency that will let you know when there are casting calls in your area, but mainly I just use google to find out about them. http://www.open-casting-calls.info/ is also a nice resource, but they tend to put up their info a bit later than I’d like.

OMG you talked to freaking Loki does he really stay in character all the time like in the gifs I've seen did you freak out and go all like asdfghjklcvghjdnbvsdjkbgfjkms when you saw everyone there? I know I would LOL

Haha, no he’s not in character all the time.  He was exceedingly nice to everybody on set, and even pretty open with all of the extras. There were a few times where a bit of Loki came out though, like the now infamous ”kneel bitches” thing, and when we were filming the reactions of just the extras (he wasn’t on camera) he continued to give us the “made to be ruled” speech, instead of having the stand-in take his place.

Obviously I was excited beyond belief to be there, and I was probably a bit awkward because, you know, Tom Hiddleston and Chris Evans and Joss Whedon, but I like to think that I wasn’t a total spaz. :P

In an interview, Tom said that, during the shooting of The Avengers, he had an extra come up to him on set and ask him if he was interested in seeing her dressed as Loki. Was that you?

Oh wow when you phrase it like that you make it sound like I was being a major creeper.
What happened was he was talking to a bunch of us about different things from the comics and such. I had mentioned that I had a Lady Loki costume that I made for conventions, but we weren’t allowed phones or anything on set, so I couldn’t show him a picture. He then offered me his assistant’s email so I could get a picture or two to the production office.
But I guess to answer your question, yes, that was me.

/repetitive question time! Holy crap, it's so cool that you got to be an extra in the movie! How was Tom?

How was Tom? Are you ready for an essay, haha?

He’s every bit as sweet/funny as he seems in his interviews and more! He started conversations with us, even though us extras were all told not to talk to the actors, because they probably wouldn’t want to be bothered.

My favorite Tom story happened on the last day of filming. I had talked to him briefly on a previous day, and told him I had made a Lady Loki costume, and he then gave me his assistant’s email so I could send a picture to him. The last thing that we shot was the interior gala scene, so on the final day we were all surrounding the alter, while Tom was standing at it in his classy suit. It was in between takes, so were were all sort of relaxing,  and then Tom looks over at me, makes eye contact, does that little mischievous smile that he’s so good at, winks at me, and motions that he saw the pictures. I was looking around at people behind me, to make sure that it was directed at me, I just couldn’t believe that had just happened. I was then the subject of a bunch of jokes for a while among the other extras  (i.e. “Get your man over here, we want to talk to him” ).

Two or so hours later, after we finished that particular shot, we went back on set and he was in his Asgard regalia, walking by. He sees me, doubles back and tells me that he saw the pictures and he thought my costume was amazing. He asked me if I ever wore it to any conventions, and I said yes, and then he told me that he would be going to New York Comic Con, and that if I was able to come he would look for me there.

He not only remembered me when I went to Comic Con, but in this interview he talks about meeting me on set. (around 5:00)

TL;DR: Total and complete sweetheart who remembered me months later even though I was just some random extra.

Finally got a good picture of me in the movie! :D

I still have trouble believing that this is real.

I’m just keeping the tags the same.

Omg!  Did you get to kneel?  :D

I did! :D I can truthfully say that I knelt for Loki.

So I promised you guys something a little bit cool when I got home: here it is! :D

This is what we got to hold during the Gala. It’s a pamphlet that apparently describes the alter you see in the movie during the related scene, but I can’t read German, so I don’t know for sure. If anybody wants to try and translate it, be my guest.  (And please let me know what it says. :P)

Edit: Translation (thanks to Donpe)

Wow! You are in AVENGERS trailer! Congratulations! You probably answered this question like million times, but what was it like to be on the set? Whom have you seen in character apart from Loki? I'd die if'd see Tom in Loki costume or anyone else

Being on set was amazing, like a dream come true! The hours were long (4pm-6am) but they flew by way too quickly. I’ve always been fascinated by the movie industry, but I never dreamed I would ever get a chance to ever be directly involved in one, especially in a movie a big as this.
And I got to see Chris Evans in costume, and Scarlett was there but I didn’t see in her costume, only in street clothes. Joss Whedon was also there and incredibly nice.
But yeah, when I found out I was going to be in a scene with Tom Hiddleston, I could have died. I mean, it was already amazing that I got to be an extra, but to be an extra in a scene with my favorite actor as my favorite comic villain was something I could never have even asked for.
And then to have almost everybody involved in the movie be so super nice, really, the only way to describe is “dream come true”, because anything else wouldn’t be doing it justice.

Around 5 minutes in he mentions meeting me! He liked my costume and said that I was beautiful! I’m kind of freaking out.

Back from Cleveland! (again)

I was just watching him in between takes and he looked over at me with that amazing, slightly mischievous smile and winks.

Tom, you have to be careful what you do with that gorgeous face, you’re going to kill somebody.

I’m sad that it’s over, but my group of extras had the longest time, so I really can’t complain.

This has been the best experience of my life.  I cannot describe how wonderful everything has been. Every person I met was soooo nice, I got to talk to my favorite actor, and hopefully I’ll make it into the final cut in the movie.

When I went out to that casting call and waited for 6 hours in line, I never expected anything like this.

29 August 2011 @ 12:43am

Tom Hiddleston told me that I looked beautiful.

Driving to Cleveland and back 3 times was worth it just for that.

EEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’M SO PROUDDDDDDDDDD ;U;///

baaaa youshouldshowoffyrladythoroutfitahhhh eventhoughjustanextraaa

I did tell him that I made a Lady Loki costume, and he asked me if I had any pictures, but because we’re not allowed cell phones on set, I didn’t. So he thought for a second and gave me his assistant’s email address so I could email him a picture. :D
He is just about the nicest guy in the entire world.

Tom Hiddleston is one of the nicest, most amazing people on Earth.

Seriously, I can’t even comprehend how nice he is. He is exactly as kind and sweet as he seems in all of his interviews, if not more so. And the way he just seems so happy and thankful for everything, smiling all the time, jumping around, going out of his way to interact with the extras, it’s just too much.

All of this on top of being an absolutely phenomenal actor. I can’t say details, obviously, but being near him while he’s in character is breathtaking.

Tom, you need to stop being so amazing or I may just die.
